PROFESSIONAL LEADERSHIP ACTIVITIES & SERVICE

  • Vanderbilt Ph.D. Applicants Weekend (January 2025) Student Coordinator: I actively contributed to our department as a dedicated student coordinator for the prospective Ph.D. applicants’ weekend. In my role, I collaborated with Dr. Michael de Riesthal to facilitate the event. I enthusiastically engaged with prospective students, offering insights into the program, answering their questions, and providing valuable perspectives on the department’s offerings.
  • Presenter for ALS, Huntington’s Disease (HD), and Parkinson’s Disease (PD) Support Groups (2023 – Present): Regularly provide educational presentations on speech-language pathology assessment and intervention for individuals with ALS, HD, and PD. Topics include the role of the SLP in disease management, motor speech disorders, and evidence-based treatment approaches. Engage with patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals to enhance awareness and provide education.
  • Vanderbilt Graduate Student Council Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences Representative (May 2024 – Present): I serve as the primary liaison between the department and the Graduate Student Council, advocating for the needs and concerns of graduate students. I collaborate with faculty and administration to improve academic and student life, facilitate communication, and organize events and initiatives to enhance the graduate student experience.
  • Vanderbilt University Medical Center Huntington Disease Education Day Planning Committee (January 2024 – May 2024): In my role as a member of the planning committee, I assisted in planning the event, arranging the agenda, and speaking at the event about nutrition and swallowing in HD. This event was arranged with the support of Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Huntington’s disease society of America (HDSA).
  • Vanderbilt Ph.D. Applicants Weekend (January 2024): I actively contributed to our department as a dedicated student representative. In my role, I volunteered to serve during the Ph.D. Applicant Weekend in the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences (DHSS), leveraging my experience as a current Ph.D. student to assist prospective candidates. I enthusiastically engaged with these individuals, offering insights into the program, answering their questions, and providing valuable perspectives on the department’s offerings.
  • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association (ALSA) Young Professionals Council Member (2023 – 2024): As a member of the Young Professionals Council (YPC) of the Nashville, TN ALSA chapter, I lead and volunteered at various events, including forums, golf tournaments, and the annual Walk to Defeat ALS.
  • Vanderbilt Graduate School Representative (December 2023): In my role as a representative for the graduate school, I provided a glimpse into the daily life of a graduate student. Throughout the day, I shared updates on Instagram and Facebook, highlighting my research and engaging with inquiries from prospective graduate students.   • Grandparent University at Oklahoma State University (June 2021): This is a 2-day learning program where grandparents get to attend a major with their grandchildren. As a master’s student involved with this program, I was responsible for creating events for the communication science and disorder program.
  • City Year Americorps Member (July 2016 – June 2017): City Year is a national nonprofit service program to unite young adults from diverse backgrounds for a demanding year of full-time community service in schools located in high-need communities. I was placed in an elementary school in Memphis, TN where I provided mentoring, tutoring, and facilitated after/before school educational programs.
